2012 Race Report:

The 2012 Victorian State Championship was held by Big Hill Events at the picturesque Mount Avoca Winery with competitors completing laps of the fast and frantic 6.3k course.

The Junior categories were full of talent for the future, including Liam Jeffries (1st in Under 15s), Mitch Greenway (1st in Under 17s) and in the Under 19s it was a hot contest between Torq riders Jason Lowndes and Tasman Nankervis – with Chris Hamilton dominating (1st) and also getting the lap record of 14:46seconds.

The Expert Mens category turned in to the closest race of the day with Owen Hughes (1st), Todd Cuthbert (2nd) and Mick Brown (3rd) sticking to each other on every lap.

In the Elite Womens category it was a tight race for 3rd place between Nicole Jeffries and Kim McCormack with Kim getting the podium spot by 1 second. Melissa Anset State Cyclo Cross Champion, with wins at Mt Buller Festival and Alice Springs and enduro stage races this year put in a fantastic performance finishing second a couple of minutes behind Myriam Guillot the Adventure Team French contender. Myriam, who had taken part in a 7k trail run the day before, put in a huge effort and completed her 6 laps in a great time of 1:47:38seconds.

The top four Elite Men (Rohin Adams, Paul Redenbach, Michael Crosbie and Peter Kutschera) stuck to each other like glue, until lap 7 when Kona rider Paul Redenbach dropped off. In the final lap Peter Kutschera grasped victory within 500 meters with a massive attack to the line, Michael Crosbie in tow and Rohin Adams in 3rd.

On behalf of Big Hill Events we would like to congratulate our new Victorian State XC Champions – Peter Kutschera and Melissa Anset.
