2012 Race Report:

The Buxton Bootcamp in its first year has stamped its authority on the Victorian race scene as an event not to miss in the future.

Over 260 riders took part in the event on the weekend that started with perfect weather and ended with a perfect day. With comments after laps of the course like "I don't care what anyone says, that was better than drugs" and "That was more fun than having 2 super models in your bed" (censored version of comment) I think Buxton has a few more fans of the park.

The great work of James Cowell from DSE and the Murrindindi cycle club was evident as the 14.5km 100% single track course just kept pleasing riders all day. But how could it not with sections like Spider Gully and Off Camber just a few of the course highlights.

In the solo mens field the two Chancellor boys set the pace high to start with and from the outside it may have looked like they were working together, what both being Giant factory team riders and all. But on course it was anything but! At first it was Sam setting the pace and Scott responding but after 3hrs of racing Scott put the hammer down and opened up a small gap on his cousin. Sam spent some time in the dirt there as the pressure mounted but soon found his rhythm again and it came down to the last lap. His technical ability was too strong as he took the win in just over a 10 second margin. Stu Brown was out of the chaos but riding strong for a convincing 3rd place position. In the womens race it was a close affair between Katie Chancellor and Clair Vlahopoulos with hardly more than 5 minutes between them. Katie who had the series all wrapped up got off to a slow start but by the 4th lap the flow was changing and she was on the comeback. It was all too late though and Claire held on and took a great win.

The pairs race saw Scott Nedham and Rohin Adams the event director set a consistent pace all day to win both the Pairs category and the overall event in pretty convincing fashion.

In the 3hr event the racing was fast and furious but Amity McSwan and Peter Kutchera were just too strong for the field. Both actually set the fastest laps for the day so it's no wonder they went onto win.

The event directors of Big Hill Events want to thank Tourism Victoria, DSE, Murrindindi cycling club and all the riders for having made the event such a great weekend of racing.
We especially thank all those that supported both Challenge and remembrance day with charity donations.
