We are excited to introduce the Buxton Range Gravel Grind, our newest 50km route that starts and finishes at the Buxton MTB park.
The opening 20k has got a little bit of up (a lot) but it’s exceptional gravel averaging really rideable percentages with just one section that nudges 14%. The other tough sections have shorter stints at 9/10% but are very rideable.
At the 14.5km mark when you turn on Cameron road, you’ll start the main climb of the day up to the top of the range which is an average of 5-7% for around 5.5km shaded beauty forest on premium gravel.
Once you get up the top onto Black Range Road it’s PREMIUM gravel, beautiful, fast, rolling before it gets onto the descent back down from the top of the range is stunning and will leave smiles all around.
By the end of it, you’ll have 55km with 1200 metres in the legs and will take an average punter around 3-4 hours to knock over.
IS IT A RACE?
This is a timed event and there will be a podium for those who are keen to race for the choccies, but all riders are welcome and the most important thing is to have fun, and ride it at your own pace.
We’d suggest a gravel bike, or a hardtail MTB to conquer this route. There’s nothing too technical and it’s a fast, flowy descent off the range so stability and control is a must.
Short Description: It’s a fun, fast route.
